It's My Birthday!

Happy birthday to me! 😁 It's so weird not having anything planned for my birthday, especially since I have done something big the last few years. Since I grew up not celebrating Christmas, birthdays were our one day to go big.

I've been eyeing this one designer bag for the past year, waiting for my birthday to pull the plug. Lo and behold though, I was hit with a large property tax bill last month. Welp, there goes my savings.... ☹️ Although I couldn't splurge as planned, I still treated myself to a few things. I'll be going over some of them in the next few weeks, including some very generous gifts 🥰, but today will be about my birthday "splurge", which is a pair of tall boots I've been wanting to get!

I want to say that thigh high boots became super popular around 2-3 years ago. I love the look of them and think they can look so edgy and classy at the same time... depending on what you wear, of course. Sometimes they can make you look hoochy, which I'm not really down for anymore. I'm too old for that... sigh. Anyways, a few years ago, I decided to give them a try. Because I'm on the shorter side, the thigh high boots looked absolutely ridiculous on me. Like, I might as well be wearing a pair of pants. Also, I learned that my dancer calves can't handle boots with no stretch, so I gave up on the hunt and decided it wasn't meant to be.

A few months ago, I came across these knee high boots. Rather than thigh highs, these seemed like an appropriate length for me, especially since they come a little above my knee. As a bonus, it has a little block heel that adds height without sacrificing comfort!

I wore them for the first time last night on a birthday dinner with a friend and I love them! 😍 The block heel is about 2.5" tall, which for me is the perfect heel height to add some height without feeling any pain. They slipped on relatively easily because the back is elastic. Since my calves are huge, it took a couple tugs, but I feel like I struggle more with some boots that are shorter, so I have no complaints about these. Although I can wear these as over the knee boots, I like to push them down a bit so they're not squeezing my ginormous thighs.

It happened to rain the night I wore these, and TBH, I was so scared of eating shit on the sidewalk in front of all the bougie people going to their little "casual" dinners. Surprisingly, I survived! After dinner we decided to go on a little walk to smell some candles and get some ice cream. I would say we walked about 30 mins after, through a department store, and down a few stairs, and still no pain!

Overall, I would recommend these if you feel like you're too short to pull off over the knee boots, looking for a comfortable pair of heeled boots, or have thicc calves and can't jam your legs down a typical pair of tall boots. The price point is a little high, but in my opinion, I'm glad I'm finally able to find a pair of cute boots that fit me well and will last a long long time.
