Let's face it. 2020 was ✨shiet✨. 2021? Not much better yet. I miss seeing my friends. I miss traveling. And to top it all off, my manager has been a nightmare. I'm used to taking at least two large trips each year, typically during summer and winter. I actually have never been grounded for this long, and I'm much overdue for a trip.

Got to go to Paris in February before everything shut down for 2020 😭

You know who's a little more careless though? My bro. Now, I'm not saying that he's absolutely reckless. Even though he's been seeing his friends, they drive to their destinations and get tested before going on large trips. He's also in a long distance relationship and takes weekend trips every now and then. So obvi, like the most responsible big sister that I am, I got him a suitcase for his birthday. What can I say, I'm an instigator? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Away "The Carry-On" Battery Suitcase

Rating: A-

We Summarize Things

Dirt magnet but it's pretty and a sacrifice worth making given that you wouldn't have to hunt for an outlet in the airport to charge your phone anymore.

First Impressions

Okay let's face it. These suitcases are straight up ✨eye candy✨. With their sleek silhouette and modern matte finish, you look like a badass rolling through the airport or wherever you are. I really liked how it was very nicely packaged. Similar to the Bearaby blanket, I'm not sure why this came with a dustbag since you probably won't ever use it again, but hey, it was a nice touch. It also came with a garment bag which was pretty cool!

How inspiring.

Features

There are two options of The Carry On, the Battery one that comes with an external battery, and the Standard that is without. Both are the same price and seems like the only big difference is that the battery makes the suitcase a little heavier. I was surprised to find that the battery is just a standard sized power bank, since the reviews made it seem like it was super heavy. Worth the sacrifice in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️. Apparently, the external battery is very convenient and is so durable that it can withstand being run over by a car and still be fine 🤣.

Battery clicks in and out here and needs to be removed at TSA.

The size is very cute! Perfect for a long weekend getaway. It's pretty shallow though and can probably only fit a few outfits. For longer trips, the Bigger Carry-On would probably be the better option for you, but there is no guarantee that it would fit overhead on all your flights.

Each side comes with a divider, which you can put smaller items in. The only feature that I found people were missing is an exterior pocket. But realistically, if you need an exterior pocket, you shouldn't be getting a hard-shell suitcase anyway. Otherwise, I think this was designed with everything you need to travel, including a little compartment that holds a bag for your dirty shoes or clothes!

This unfolds into a shoe/laundry bag. Neat!

Dirt Magnet

So I only took the suitcase out for a few minutes to inspect it and take pics before wrapping it up. In that time, I saw that I left a few fingerprints on the matte exterior shell, and the wheels already collected some dust and dog hair. I think the fingerprints faded away, but I'm kinda scared to see how this would look after a trip.... 🤔

WHAT ARE THOSE???

All in all, if I hadn't already gotten myself a new carry-on last year (it's really pretty too 😍), I would probably consider getting one of these. If only they would let me choose the color I want! Not sure if the website is buggy? 🤔
