Yay another birthday post! I'm probably seen as a crazy blanket lady by this point, but I can't help it! As the weather is starting to cool down, I usually pile on the blankets instead of cranking up the heater.

This weighted blanket by Bearaby is part of the "birth month" series. I've actually been eyeing this blanket for over a year now, and never pulled the trigger because it is a pricey one. I love the look of this blanket compared to the typical ones. I couldn't decide on which color I wanted, so I had my boyfriend pick, and ended up with the dark blue one.

We Summarize Things

Cute and unique, but very stinky and not warm.

First off, I didn't have the best first impression of this blanket. When I unboxed it, it came in a canvas drawstring bag, which was pretty nice. Not sure when I'd use it again because I don't think I can stuff the blanket back in the bag, but it was a nice touch. However, when I pulled the blanket out, it had this awful smell, kind of like wet cardboard. I laid under it anyway, but needed to hold my breath a bit. It has been laying out flat in my living room to air out for the past week, and the smell is still there 🤢 I hope the smell dies down soon...

Now, I'm fortunate to not really get anxiety. Clinically, a weighted blanket isn't really something that I need, but I like warm hugs. Comfort-level wise, this took a little bit of getting used to. I like the weight actually. In fact, I wish I went up to the next weight. Rule of thumb is that it is recommended to go with a blanket weighing about 10% of your body weight. I wonder if it's a safety thing if you choose to sleep with it, but I actually really enjoyed the weight of it and could use more!

Appearance-wise, the color of the blanket is darker in person, which I actually prefer. The material isn't as soft as advertised in my opinion, and it feels kind of cold with the loose knit. Last night, I actually layered it with a warmer blanket underneath for extra coziness, and it also gives me a buffer for the smelliness. This blanket is weighted with the material, not with bean bags like most blankets are. Because of that, the loops on the blanket are pretty weighty, and makes it harder to maneuver.

Overall, I would recommend this to anybody looking to splurge on a unique looking weighted blanket. It is true what they say - weighted blankets feel like warm hugs. In my opinion, this blanket isn't worth the price, given that you can get any other weighted blanket for a fraction of the price. However, it feels like it will last a very long time, is very cute, and I hope the smell dies down soon for me to really enjoy it.
