Masking My Emotions

Not gonna lie, I've had a horrible week. I had a major meltdown at work and had to take a personal day off the following day. It was bad. Like, open-mouth crying in front of my coworkers bad. I broke under pressure, and needed time to myself to recover. As someone who is pretty career driven, it was tough taking a day off, but ultimately, it was what I needed.

When times get tough, it's easier said than done, but our mental health needs to come first. One thing to help with that is getting enough sleep. If that doesn't work, as a last resort, at least treat yourself to a little pamper sesh. For me, I like to relax in bed with a good face mask. For those nights when I have to recover from sleep deprivation, my go-to is an under eye mask, chilled overnight in the fridge.

Keep in mind - I have oily/combination skin, so what works for me may not necessarily work for everyone else!

Attractive, eh?

Milk Makeup - Cooling Water Eye Patches

Rating: A

Very impressed with these! This is the first Milk product I've tried, and I'm sold. I like how the gel pads are stickier than the other ones I've tried. When I took the patches off, they were still very moist and left my skin feeling nice. I think they brightened my skin a little too. They're very cooling even without sticking them in the refrigerator, and leaves my skin feeling refreshed. I also think these are bigger than the other eye patches, which is good because then they can cover my bags.

Wander Beauty - Baggage Claim Gold Eye Masks

Rating: D

Upon first glance, these are very pretty and look very luxurious. The gold foil makes me feel very bougie, like I'm at a spa. When I first put them on, they feel cool for a few seconds, but then they feel very warm. Maybe it's because the foil absorbs body heat, but they aren't really relaxing because once they warm up, they dry very quickly. They are the most affordable, at a little over $4 per pair, but they're not worth saving a dollar or two. Also, not sure if it's because of the lack of sleep or these, but I woke up with red eyelids and redness under my eye. I don't wear concealer to work anymore, so I looked very cute that morning 👍.

BLAQ - Eye Mask

Rating: B+

In my opinion, Blaq is an underrated brand. I discovered it in my Fab Fit Fun box (review to come shortly!), and really like their peel off mask. They're very moist straight out of the package! These are relaxing and cooling when they're on but doesn't feel different after you take them off your face. A bonus is that since they're so wet you can rub in the leftover serum liquid stuff all over your face. They're the thickest gel ones I've used and feels very substantial, more than the paper-thin ones you get at the drugstore.

ToGoSpa - Ice Water Eyes

Rating: B

Similar to BLAQ, they are nice gel cooling pads. They work better if you refrigerate them beforehand. Pretty relaxing and cool, but does not help with skin benefits or anything. A pretty standard under eye mask. TBH, it's been awhile since I used these, but I saved a few, which means I must've enjoyed them. When I opened up a sealed pack though to refresh my memory, they were super dried up. Oops.

Overall, these are nice whenever I need a quick refresh, especially since I don't get enough sleep on the weeknights. I heard that some people use the masks in the morning, which I'd be curious to try to see if it helps with the depuffing better. Maybe I'll do a part 2!
